Who we are
Varrado is a marketplace for homes and land to rent and buy, with 360° virtual tours and agents you can message directly. The controller of the personal data described here is [registered company name], [registered office address]. Questions about anything on this page go to privacy@varrado.com, and we answer them.
This policy covers the Varrado website and the Varrado mobile apps. They are one service on one set of records: a viewing you book on your phone is the same viewing on this site.
What we collect
Your account
The name, email address and password you register with, or the name, email address and profile photo Google gives us when you sign in with Google. If you upload a photo, a biography or your agency details, we hold those too. You can browse as a guest without an account; a guest session still has an anonymous identifier attached to it so your saved homes survive a page reload.
What you do on Varrado
- the homes you save, the searches and alerts you set up, and the tours you unlock;
- the viewings you request, and the times you offer or accept;
- the messages you send to agents and members, and the photos you send with them;
- the listings, tours and availability you publish if you are an agent;
- the reviews you write and the reports you file about other accounts.
Payments
When you keep a card on file we store a description of the card and never the card itself — the brand, the last four digits and the expiry date, which is what a receipt needs in order to say which card it was. We do not store the full card number and we do not store the security code. We also keep a record of each purchase: what it was, what it cost and when, because that is the receipt.
Your device
A push notification token if you turn notifications on, so we can tell you about a reply or a confirmed viewing. Approximate location if you allow it, so the map can open where you are. Ordinary technical data — device type, browser, app version, and the errors the app hits — which we use to keep it working.
Your appearance and language choices are stored on your device only. They never reach us, which is also why they do not follow you to another browser.
Why we hold it
- To provide the service — showing you homes, holding your saved list, delivering your messages, booking your viewings, unlocking the tours you paid for. This is the contract between us.
- To keep it safe — investigating reports, blocking abuse, preventing fraudulent listings and payments. This is our legitimate interest in a marketplace people can trust, and yours.
- To improve it — understanding which parts are used and where they break, in aggregate.
- Because we have to — tax and accounting records for the payments, and responding to lawful requests.
Push notifications and location both wait for your permission, and you can withdraw either at any time in your device settings without losing anything else.
Who can see it
Some of what you give us is public to other signed-in users by design: your display name and photo, your profile, any listings and tours you publish, and the reviews you leave. Treat those as visible to everyone using Varrado.
When you message an agent or request a viewing, that agent sees your name, your photo and what you sent them. They need to in order to answer you.
Your online status is shown to people you message, and only until you turn it off. When you turn it off in Settings we do not merely hide the dot — the online and last-seen values are deleted, so there is nothing left for anyone to read. Hiding your status does not stop you seeing other people’s.
Behind the app we use service providers who process data on our instructions and nothing else: Google Firebase for sign-in, the database, file storage and push delivery; a map provider for the map; and a payment processor when a purchase is made. We share what those services need and no more.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
We will disclose data where the law requires it, and where it is necessary to protect someone’s safety or to enforce our Terms.
Where it is held
Our providers operate globally, so your data may be processed outside the country you are in. Where it leaves [England and Wales], it moves under the safeguards the law provides for such transfers — standard contractual clauses or an equivalent — and it is protected the same either way.
How long we keep it
- Your account, for as long as it exists. Delete it and we delete the profile, your saved homes, your alerts and your drafts.
- Messages and viewings, for as long as the other side of the conversation keeps them — a chat has two people in it, and one leaving does not erase the other’s record of what was agreed.
- Purchases, for as long as tax and accounting law requires, because a receipt has to survive the account.
- Reports and safety records, for as long as they are needed to keep the marketplace safe.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- show you what we hold about you, and give you a copy of it;
- correct anything that is wrong — most of it you can edit yourself in your profile;
- delete your account and the data attached to it;
- stop using your data for a particular purpose, or restrict how we use it;
- take back any consent you gave, without that affecting what came before.
Deleting your account is in Settings and does not need to go through us. For anything else, write to privacy@varrado.com and we will answer within one month. If you are not satisfied with our answer you can complain to [the relevant data protection authority].
Children
Varrado is not for people under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has an account here, tell us and we will remove it.
Changes to this policy
When we change this policy we change the date at the top of it. If a change materially affects what we do with your data, we will tell you in the app before it takes effect rather than leaving you to find it here.
Something not covered here? Ask us at privacy@varrado.com. A question about this policy is a gap in it, and we would rather fix the gap.
